Michael Carroll

BackArtists.html

Michael came from a secure, verging on isolated, farming background in the Central West of NSW. This was possibly a disadvantage, but it meant his childhood was intimately associated with the natural world.

He left the family farm on turning 29 and from 1969 formal artistic study began. This took various forms over nine years.

Circumstance and “calling” dictated his painting cum artistic career, and also affected it’s progress.

From then, travel exploration drove his work. He gathered material for his painting in the form of sketches, diaries and photographs. Family roots influenced some destinations, others arose from his own idiosyncratic tastes.

Too broad a scope, he venerated the widest spectrum of artistic pursuit - culture and it’s history.
