Di Colman

A long term fascination of the interaction and idiosyncrasies of people is interwoven with Di's background in animation, where mannerisms and body language are of prime importance. At first glance her paintings appear humorous. However, in some, a look behind the comic face reveals deeper, more complex issues.

Di's subjects are not the usual ideal stereotypes, rather a selection of everyday people going about their own lives. They are the very people that make up our society with all their frailties and ideals.

Di Colman's childhood was spent in country NSW. She subsequently moved to Sydney to study Fine Arts at the National Art School, Darlinghurst. When these studies were interrupted due to family circumstances she found herself immersed in the animation industry and held positions of Animator, Character Designer, Director and Animation Teacher with companies such as Walt Disney, Hanna Barbera, Southern Star and Burbank Studios. Her second marriage in 1998 to Chris brought Di back to her roots in country NSW where she is now fortunate to be able to indulge in her first love, painting.

During the last few years Di has been involved in a number of exhibitions both solo and group, and established a gallery in Orange to promote local artists. Her desire to pursue further study and concentrate on her own work prompted Di to return to the solitude of her farm based studio in 2005. In 2006 Di's attentions turned to sculpture. This new medium has introduced her to yet another area of intrigue. She joined the 'Rogue Sculpture' group in 2007.
